
Genocide in 1971: 2 Razakars sentenced to death, 3 people die
The court sentenced two Razakars to death and three more to death for the genocide of village Dakkhakhola in Moulvibazar.
The prisoners said. Nesar Ali and Ujjad Ahmed have been given the highest punishment judgment. And fugitive Shamsul Hossain Tarafdar alias Ashraf, Younus Ahmed and Mobarak Mia have been given imprisonment for life.
Among the five accused, Yunus and Ujhar were present during the raid. The remaining three are absconding since the beginning of the case.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal headed by Justice Shahinur Islam announced the verdict on Wednesday.
It is said in the verdict that all the five allegations of the prosecution have been proved. The execution of the two death sentence convicts will be executed by hanging.
The Tribunal's verdict has been asked to take necessary measures to arrest the absconding accused and to ensure the execution of the sentence.
According to the rules, the verdict in the tribunal case can be appealed in a maximum court within a month. However, if the fugitive accused will have to take that opportunity, they will have to surrender.
The court has started the trial of five accused in the case on 8 December 2016 by forming the complaint. Three of the 67 accused in 30 cases pending in the tribunal have died in the trial. A total of 64 people have been convicted, among whom the maximum punishment of 38 war criminals came.
